Beaver Scouts

Beaver Scouts in GLS

Who we are? BEAVERS, BEAVERS, BEAVERS!!!!
What do we have? FUN, FUN, FUN!!!!
What do we make? FRIENDS, FRIENDS, FRIENDS!!!!

Beavers are the youngest section within the Scouting movement and they are aged between 6 – 8 years old. It is very easy to identify a Beaver Scout in GLS as they are usually running around in a turquoise jumper with a sparkling smile and a bubbly laugh alongside the eagerness to meet new people and make new friends!!!

Beaver colonies in GLS usually hold their meeting once a week on a week night. During colony meetings Beavers work towards earning a variety badges and awards which they then get to sew onto their uniform. Badges range from the experiment badge to the explorer badge and from the creative badge to the healthy eating badge. In order to achieve the badges the Beavers participate in many activities which include cooking, craft, exploration and experiments.

Beavers have also enjoyed welcoming visitors to their colony nights. Beaver colonies in GLS have welcomed a range of visitors to their colony meeting. The dentist, the mini-beast man, the paramedic and even the Mayor have caught the attention, interest and imagination of the young Beavers during colony evening visits. Many Beavers have even bought their pets along to colony meetings as part of the animal friend badge. The Beavers give a talk about their pet, explain how they look after their pet and even allow the other beavers to touch, hold or stoke their pet!!

Beaver Scouts in GLS also take part in many adventurous, outdoor and exciting activities not only during their colony meetings but also at weekends and during the holidays. Trips to Chislehurst Caves, the Science Museum and the Zoo as well as Teddy Bear Picnics, Sports Days and action packed Funday’s allow even the children in our youngest scouting section to join the ‘big adventure’ of scouting. One night sleepovers have also become very popular amongst our Beaver Scout Sections as they offer the Beavers the opportunity, usually, to have their first experience of spending a night away from home.

The leaders in GLS who kindly give up their own time to run Beaver meetings, trips and sleepovers are in fact offering all Beavers memorable and unforgettable scouting experiences which they can carry forward with them for the rest of the life.
No one can sum up Beaver Scouting in Greater London South more so than the Beavers themselves and as one GLS Beaver has said “Beavers is just GREAT!!!!”
