Adult Training

To help Leaders to become more effective in the role they have undertaken, working with young people and as a member of the Scout Association, the County Training Team provides a number of training courses designed to help leaders progress through the Adult Training Scheme and gain their Wood Badge.
Making adventure a reality
Each of the courses will cover a set number of the Modules 5 to 19 as detailed in the Adult Training Scheme. The cost for each of these day courses is £25, with £20 cash back on attendance.
During 2012 we are also offering courses that will cover Module 16, Nights Away, Module 25 Assessing Learning and we will also be running a Residential Course taking place over 2 weekends. If you would like to know more please have a look at the Training Dates below. The application forms are also available to download.
Once you have agreed a Personal Learning Plan with your appointed Training Advisor, complete an application form, and send it to the course registrar, along with the required fee. you will then receive confirmation and joining instructions.
On the day of the course, unless your joining instructions state differently, you will be asked to turn up 30 minutes before the course is due to start. Day courses will usually start at 9.30am and will finish by 4.30pm. You will be provided with lunch, tea, coffee and soft drinks throughout the day. Leaders will be expected to participate in all of the Training Modules covered during the day.
What makes us different?
Attending a training course is not the only way in which Leaders can acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to progress through to Wood Badge. Many of the Modules are available as a workbook, video or DVD. If you prefer to learn by any one of these methods that is perfectly acceptable and can be agreed when you meet with your Training Advisor.
Previous learning or past experience can also be taken into account and might exempt Leaders from undergoing training, again your Training Advisor will be able help you decide what might be best for you. Each Module, regardless of whether you undertake any form of training, does need to be validated by your Training Advisor. The methods of validation are prescribed and approved by the Scout Association. Validation will need to be signed off before any Module is deemed to have been completed. Attendance on a course does NOT validate the module!
As part of the Getting Started Modules, Child Protection is an essential element for all adults working with young people. In addition to the Scout Application, you will have completed form AA, this will be processed and a CRB Disclosure requested. There are no exceptions to this.
New leaders might also like to work through the distant learning workbooks “Keeping Children Safe” produced by the NSPCC that deals with Child Protection issues. There is a modest fee to our members and the application forms can be downloaded from scouts..org.uk
